My heart has taken some serious hits the past couple of weeks with the senseless violence and disregard to human life.
The world as we have come to know it is so desensitized to basic human decency that I am greatly saddened for the present and future.
I saw a video on my timeline a couple of weeks ago where a grown boy knocked a woman out and instead of anyone rushing to the woman’s aide, other grown boys ran up with cameras and phones to record her while being knocked out. It was so unsettling to see that, and I cannot unsee it.
I find myself praying harder than ever as my Goddaughter, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends’ children grow up in this type of world. I pray that they surround themselves with people who would never tolerate this type of behavior let alone participate in it.
A young lady called an Uber to safely travel home from a night of partying with friends and fell right into the trap of a predator. To think that of the horror she endured after an innocent mistake is just startling and heart breaking.
Cliff Dixon was out celebrating life, having achieved success as both a rapper and an NBA player, he was taking time out to celebrate his birthday when someone decided his life was dispensable.
Nipsey Hussle, that one hurt me to my core… I have watched this young man come into his own as of late, he was moving with purpose continuing to pour back into the community that raised him, he was using his notoriety and experiences to assist & guide other people on tactics of success and loving his woman, children and family. The most alarming part of his death was the rush to be first to post and share every detail of the devastating events leading up to and following his death. The oversharing of every detail was overwhelming, it took me to a grief ridden place and I do not even know him on a personal level.
I was pleased that most of the coverage on Nipsey following his death was delivered respectfully and in a positive light. The was a focus on who he was in current times versus the mistakes of his past. That in itself speaks to who he was and prayfully a change in the right direction on how people of color are represented in the media.
My heart mourns with each and every family, but Psalms 34:18 assures us that God is with the brokenhearted. And to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord! It is my prayer that each family holds close to God during this season of bereavement because He is Peace. He is Comfort! He is there every step of the way!
Let us all pray for a better world, for each other and those we love!
Let’s hope and pray. Life is special…we need to show more love and respect for each other.
