There are a few things that can make me forget within seconds how far I’ve grown both in maturity and my spirituality.
I feel like breaking out the bike chains, crowbar and brass knuckles when I learn of someone hurting someone I care about! (don’t judge me, pray for me!)
The world and times that we are in make it so hard to be a person with high morals and one who can resist temptation. Temptations are thrown at us from every direction, everyday.
Some people may be burdened with tasty temptations when they are on suppose to be making a life style change but their mother lives with them and make banana pudding and pound cakes like she’s being paid to do it… ok, that one was for me.. moving on…
There are temptations of the spirit where we can either beat ourselves up because we consider ourselves inadequate to the success, looks or blessings of others. There may also be temptations believing we are above others and place ourselves on a hierarchy.
Temptations of the heart will have us holding grudges and being unforgiving to prove points that are not ours to prove. There are times when we are anxious and full of anxiety putting additional stress on the body because our hearts are fearful of the pressures of life.
There are temptations of the flesh (I know someone was waiting for that).. Social media and the general accessibility of people that we have in this world in current times makes it a lot easier and a lot more common to fall into temptations of the perceptions of people we believe based on the public images they have built. We end up with broken homes and broken hearts for short-term gratification that 9 times out of 10 was not worth the risk taken.
So, back to the bike chains.. we are tempted to invoke physical harm on those that cause us emotional harm.
We are tempted to break jaws and laws for the physical pain to match the sadness we feel.
When I heard of my friend’s despair I was tempted to have a “Waiting to Exhale” party, fire pit and all but that’s not WJWD (what Jesus would do) so I had to pray, go to bed, wake up the next day and continue to pray because I was even madder than I was the previous day!
So many questions come with betrayal of the heart and vows that will go unanswered, so many things will be left unsaid and so many unknowns lay ahead.
2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations.
No matter what the temptations are; we are to resist temptation! There is no-one who is immune to temptation as we are all born into sin, but we do have to be aware of temptations and able to safeguard ourselves against them.
It is said “temptation is the strongest, when we are the weakest” and this is so true. Any time Chocolate and I are going through our marital strife, here comes someone from the past like “hey big head” in my DMs. I’m always like Boy, Bye!
I am aware that they are not there on their own accord but as temptation from the devil himself, I do not take the bait. The temporary discord my husband and I are going through is not an opportunity to invite more chaos into our home.
I will go and meet with God before I engage with the devil (Okay!) and get myself energized to see that God’s power is Supreme while Satan’s is limited.
Don’t let yourself fall into temptations, be vigilant in the knowledge to identify temptations also known as distractions and keep focused on things that grow you!
