Hey Y’all!
I was told that it’s time for a new post and preferably today so while some are already asleep, I am determined to get this post complete!
Interdependence as defined by Webster dictionary is “the state of being dependent on one another.” Other definitions that I found are “the dependence of two or more people or things on each other” and “mutual dependence.
Why is this my return topic of choice? Glad you asked.. lol
My Pastor referenced this topic and as I have let his sermon resonate with me over the last day and a half, I have come across a few other mentions of depending on one another and it is a topic that I wholeheartedly believe in.
Good leaders can work independently but are great leaders are those who lead interdependently. They understand, accept and acknowledge that they need others to help them achieve their goals.
Marriages that function in the interdependent realm are successful as the need for one another remains front of mind. Working together as a unit versus in silos will allow for emotional intimacy leading to a stronger connection. The act of interdependence shows your spouse that you want and value their input.
Acknowledging or admitting that you need someone is a display of humility and yet so beautiful. I remember my very first post “The Need to Marry” I wrote about our premarital counseling and how the Pastor expressed that there must be a need for one another. I did not fully accept his teaching at that time but like all things, when you live long enough, life will remind you of lessons of the past!
So, what does interdependence look like in a marriage? It looks like great communication that is not harsh or hurtful! It looks like active listening where you are not just listening to respond, instead you are listening to understand! It looks like accountability, if admitting I am wrong gets us back on track to a shared goal, then let me apologize, repent & pray so that I am not standing in the way of a blessing! It looks like knowing that your happiness comes from within but your partner showing appreciation adds to it! It looks like making time for yourself and personal goals and not feeling guilty! It looks like, organic, honest and transparent actions that create and maintain a high level of trust and love!
It looks like strong families and stronger communities! This may be a reminder to some and new info for others, wither way, I pray that you are all blessed and it’s so awesome to be back!
