Psalms 27:1 tells us that ” The LORD is my light and my salvation– whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life– of whom shall I be afraid? When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.”
Allow me to focus on the part that states ” The LORD is my light and salvation” in this year full of darkness that part of that scripture in Psalms has kept me!
My church mom says ” you should always keep a Psalm on your heart” and throughout the year I have held close to that advice. The book of Psalms is truly one that journeys through life with you.
Through every twist and turn of 2020 I have drawn myself back to that scripture in Psalms “The LORD is my light and salvation” so when my hours were cut at work and we were going to be operating our home on a reduced income for an unforeseen amount of time, I just recited Psalms 27:1. That particular scriptures was my anchor but there are other chapters in Psalms that assisted in navigating through this year.
Around June when my spirit was under attack by anxiety and despair due to the social and civil unjust in the world, I turned to Psalms 46.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields[d] with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Amen, Amen!
When you read that, you ought to be encourage, for not only is God with us but He is our light & salvation!
This year I was forced to give up some things and people that I thought were solid. By doing so I was allowed more time for myself, more 1:1 time to spend 1:1 with God and to just enjoy a little slower pace.
2020 taught me so many lessons including, living today like it’s your last, show those you cherish how important they are to you by words & actions, it’s quite alright to not be what other people think you should be and most importantly as everything around us changed; one thing remained- Our God!
I don’t even pretend to know what this new year will hold but being that I know who holds my future I will continue to stay prayed up for you & me!
