Read this out loud:
“My past is for reference, not residence!”
Now, say it again like you really mean it!
One of life’s harder lessons as you get older, and mature both spiritually and emotionally you start to assess yourself and everyone around you. You soon discover that some of those people will not be in your future as they are trying to keep you in your past. They want you to remain stagnant in hopes of you not outgrowing them but you eventually come to the acceptance that you have to let them go in order to grow..fly..prosper!
In my Post Growth & Comfort I share some of my experiences where I had to take a hard look at where I was in relation to where I was going and where I ultimately wanted to be, then make some tough decisions.
We have all made some choices that we wish we had not. We have all made some mistakes we would like to forget but they all work together for our good. They help mold us into who we are. Without the mistakes of our past, we would not be as strong as we are today!
I have always learned from my mistakes, choosing to view them as lessons versus mistakes. I work hard to not repeat them but sometimes… life happens and we fall right back down a path we have already been on before we know it! The difference this time around is we can recognize it sooner and course correct our actions quicker.
If it does not make you grow, let it go! No more living in the past!
A behavior that needs to be left in the past is ….we beat ourselves up better than anyone else and are hesitant at acknowledge our own accomplishments, far too focused on things that we have yet to achieve.
We have to start taking time outs to celebrate our accomplishments big & small! Those moments of celebration will help propel actions to achieve those goals still on our list!
Know that you know better, do better! Your past is for reference, not residence!
